Prologis

Prologis is a real estate investment trust company with property located on the South Branch of the Chicago River. We collaborated with them in 2022 to build a floating garden as part of their larger company development plan. This is the first industrial property in Chicago to incorporate in-stream habitat as part of their development.

The garden is providing 627 square feet of critical wetland habitat in this still industrialized area, both above and below the water’s surface. The lush native greenery provides food and shelter for animals like insects and birds, and the roots grown down into the water provide refuge for all manner of aquatic species. The roots also filter and absorb pollutants from the water, directly improving the water quality around the garden.

Our collaboration with Prologis showcases the power of public-private partnerships in addressing the challenges of urbanization and environmental conservation. This garden serves as a testament to what can be achieved when non-profit organizations and private companies come together with a shared commitment to creating a more sustainable and vibrant urban landscape.
