Music Theory with Alex Rembold

  • Wild Mile 905 West Eastman Street Chicago, IL, 60642 United States (map)

Alex Rembold is a musician, performer, writer, and educator who came to the Chicago scene in 2018. Here, he has formed the group "Fünky Fünke", has performed experimental music at the Uncommon Ground music finals, and has teamed up with Urban Rivers with his open jam "The Catjam" every Tuesday at 7.

Music Theory is essentially a philosophy of music. In this discipline we ask "why do some songs make us happy, while others sad?" "What patterns do we see in specific composers that give them their own style?" And "what rules of music have we developed to understand the way we perceive it?". In "Music Theory; The head, the heart, and the case for optimism", Alex Rembold will give us a foundation to understand what we hear when listening to complex melodies, harmonies, and rythmes, while also giving his perspective on how optimism is crucial to the development of the arts. His community-based approach to education will inspire those who attend this lecture to not only delve inward, but to reach out and build their own music communities.
